Poetry Month Celebration Day 1: Morning Person

First stop on the Poetry Month Express. I hope you enjoy it. This is how I felt before I began posting this morning. Still haven’t had that cuppa.

Morning Person

Shuffle stomp down the stairs
slip
thud
slip
thud
all the way
down

Haven’t had my cup of
just yet
and it shows

My nerves aren’t frayed
they are drenched
soggy
sluggish things
and all I can see
hear
smell
and taste
is sleep

Romero would cast me in a second
or maybe not
maybe it would be too spot on
maybe he would be horrified
to know what  a real zombie looks like

Braaaains
that’s what I need
and they come in the form
of a brown liquid
and forty-five minutes
of adjustment

Give me a second
or
more accurately
twenty-seven hundred of them
and then we can talk
