On the Air Today

Kind of getting late to this folks, but today I will be on TMI with Aldous Tyler on Madison Student Radio. We will be discussing the state of political dialogue in America as well as how the left can do a better job of messaging to the conservatives we are trying to help. TMI with Aldous Tyler starts at 1:00 PM EST. He will first be talking with Al Suarez about what has been going on in Venezuela since the passing of Hugo Chavez, so if you are interested in what is going on with the world’s fourth largest oil exporter (and you should be) tune in for the whole show.

You know, it is funny how sometimes something big and important and so very obvious can escape your attention for so long. I have written about my love of various activities since starting this blog. I have mentioned the influence of various characters, franchises, and creators on my person. You all have read, ad naseum, my love of Dungeons and Dragons, Doctor Who, Star Wars, and Marvel Comics. The geek in me has been exposed raw, and I have shown you the obvious suspects for that. Credit has been duly given for their influence on me both as a person and specifically as an artist. Through all this I have ignored one of the most important influences in my young life, and I am embarrassed to have taken this long to write about this person. Continue reading

Nerd culture is on the rise and has been for a few years now. I would probably be happier about having my favorite hobbies (Dungeons and Dragons, comic books, computers, etc.)  being socially acceptable if it came along with learning and the scientific method being so as well, but baby steps.  I don’t know if society is ready for that yet. In the middle of all this there is the culture of fandom, people shouting to the internet their devotion to this sci-fi/fantasy show or movie, the other, or several all at once. Continue reading

It has been long, strange journey and I cannot tell you just when I started down the road to geekdom. I can, however, tell you when, looking back with hindsight’s clarity, it is obvious I would not be taking any of the exits. I was six years old. My mom’s two younger siblings, my aunt of 15 at the time and uncle of 1o (my folks were young and from big families) took me to The Strand on Main Street in Brockport. We sit down, the theater goes dark, and then… Continue reading

And On Another Note

Your children

So, yeah, why not make today a day to write about people I have never met that inspire me. That works. I know that’s going to seem a bit unusual to you. Oh no, what’s wrong? Christine is writing schmaltzy paeans to her favorite bloggers and comedians! Oh no! It’s the apocalypse! Seriously though folks, don’t worry. First off, I kind of need it, as should be obvious from this post.  Second, this one is not going to be anywhere near as saccharine. This post is going to be about an entirely different kind of funny man. Continue reading
